Residential Gutter Services in Michigan

Most homeowners think about their roof when they think about protecting their home from water. The gutters rarely come to mind until something goes wrong… until a basement floods, until fascia boards start to rot, until soil erosion carves channels through the landscaping along the foundation, or until a section of gutter pulls away from the house under the weight of standing water.

Gutters do one job: collect water that runs off the roof and direct it away from the structure. When they do that job correctly, the rest of the home’s water management system works the way it’s supposed to. When they fail, through poor installation, age, damage, or the wrong product for the application, the consequences work their way into the foundation, the siding, the soffit and fascia, and the basement long before the damage becomes visible.

At Home Pro Roofing, we install, replace, and repair residential gutter systems throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. We work with aluminum gutters in K-style and seamless configurations: the right products for the Midwest climate and the most common residential applications in our service area. We size systems correctly for the roof area they’re draining, pitch them properly for water flow, and position downspouts to move water away from the foundation rather than toward it.

Our Residential Gutter Services

Gutter Installation

New construction, major additions, or homes that have never had a properly functioning gutter system need installation from scratch. Our residential gutter installation service covers system sizing, layout planning, material selection, and complete installation including downspouts and extensions. We size every system to the roof’s drainage load and the local rainfall intensity, not just whatever fits on the fascia.

Gutter Replacement

Gutters that are pulling away from the fascia, rusting through, leaking at every seam, or so heavily damaged that repair is no longer cost-effective need to be replaced. Our residential gutter replacement service removes the existing system, inspects the fascia for rot or damage beneath, and installs a new system properly matched to the home. Replacement is also the right move when upgrading from sectional gutters to seamless aluminum.

Gutter Repair

Not every gutter problem calls for full replacement. Sagging sections, leaking seams, separated joints, and improperly pitched runs can often be corrected without pulling the whole system. We assess the existing system honestly and recommend repair when it’s the right answer, and replacement when repair isn’t going to solve the underlying problem. Visit our gutter repair page for more on what that service includes.

Why Gutter Performance Starts With Proper Sizing and Pitch

The most common gutter failure mode in Michigan is not material failure — it is improper sizing or installation. Gutters that are too small for the roof area they serve overflow during heavy rain events even when they’re clean and functioning. Gutters without sufficient pitch toward the downspouts allow water to pool, which accelerates corrosion, adds weight that causes hangers to fail, and creates conditions for mosquito breeding in warm months and ice buildup in winter.

Every gutter system we install is sized based on the roof’s square footage, the pitch of the roof (which affects how fast water moves off the surface), and the local rainfall intensity. We calculate downspout quantity and placement to handle peak flow, and we pitch every run toward the downspout at a rate that keeps water moving without creating visible slope along the roofline.

Downspout extensions and splash blocks are part of the conversation too. A properly installed gutter that discharges at the foundation wall is still a problem. We make sure water exits far enough from the structure to protect the foundation.

How Gutters Connect to the Rest of Your Roofing System

Gutters are the continuation of what your roof’s drainage system starts. Drip edge installed correctly along the eaves directs water off the deck edge and into the gutter trough — not behind it, where it contacts the fascia and causes rot. When we install or replace a gutter system on a home where the drip edge is missing, improperly installed, or damaged, we flag it. A gutter installed on a fascia that is already rotting will not stay up.

If you have had recent roof work done or are considering a roof replacement alongside a gutter project, coordinating the two makes sense. Visit our Roof Replacement page or our Roof Installation page for more on how those services work.

Storm damage that affects your roof often affects your gutters too. If you are working through an insurance claim, we can assess gutter damage as part of the same inspection and include it in the documentation. Our Insurance Claims Guide covers how that process works.

Residential Gutter FAQs

How do I know if my gutters need to be replaced or just repaired?

Age, material condition, and the pattern of failure help answer that. Isolated leaking seams or a sagging section are often repairable. Gutters that are pulling away from the fascia along most of their run, showing widespread rust or corrosion, or leaking at multiple points along sectional joints have usually reached the point where replacement is the more cost-effective path. We will assess the system and give you an honest recommendation either way.

What size gutters does my home need?

Most homes in Michigan are well served by 5-inch K-style gutters. Homes with steep roofs, large drainage areas, or complex rooflines that concentrate water flow into specific sections sometimes benefit from 6-inch gutters on those runs. We calculate the right size for your specific roof geometry rather than defaulting to one size for everything.

How long do aluminum gutters last in Michigan?

Properly installed aluminum gutters in Michigan conditions typically last 20 to 30 years. Longevity depends on installation quality, maintenance, and how well the system is protected from physical damage — ice, ladders, and debris being the most common culprits. Keeping gutters clear of debris extends their service life significantly.

Do you install gutter guards?

Ask us during your estimate. Gutter protection products vary significantly in quality and effectiveness, and the right answer depends on the tree coverage around your home and what you’re trying to prevent. We will give you a straightforward assessment of whether a guard product is likely to deliver value in your specific situation.

Can gutter work be covered by homeowner’s insurance?

If the gutter damage was caused by a covered storm event — hail, wind, falling debris — your homeowner’s policy may cover repair or replacement. We document gutter damage as part of storm damage assessments and can include it in the estimate submitted to your carrier. Visit our Insurance Claims Guide for more on how that process works.
